Bulbs
As a rule of thumb, you should plant bulbs no deeper than twice the diameter of the bulb itself. This guideline makes it easy to remember the planting depth on any bulb. Also, when planting fall bulbs don't forget to add EB Stone Bulb Food. Depending on the bulb size, add one teaspoon or tablespoon of fertilizer per bulb at the bottom of the hole or below the bulb and then cover the fertilizer with soil.

Call your local Navlet's to see what's in stock.

Poinsettia Care
Now is the time to start the short days and long nights treatment to Poinsettia plant(s) from previous years. To get them to bloom, put the plants on a level, flat surface and for the next six weeks cover them at dinnertime with a cardboard box and remove the box at breakfast. Also, seal the box with tape to insure that no light gets in. The long dark nights are necessary for the modified leaves called Bracts to change color. There is a sufficient amount of artificial light from street lamps and indoor lights to prevent the process from naturally occurring.

Onions & Garlic
The key to growing onion sets, onion plants and/or garlic is the soil preparation. You'll need to mix into the soil six cubic feet of NSCP or homemade compost plus two pounds of Superphosphate per 100 square feet. Where drainage is an issue, also add 40# Schultz Clay Conditioner per 25 square feet. Onions and garlic are planted in rows four to six inches apart and the rows are spaced two to three feet apart.

Patch Your Lawn
Now is the time to repair those bare spots in your grass with Scotts Patch Master. Scotts Patch Master combines grass seed, fertilizer, and mulch all in one bag. All you need to do is scratch the soil, evenly spread the material, and water. The seed germinates in 7-14 days so remember to keep it moist during the germination period. Scotts PatchMaster is the quick 1-2-3 way to repair bare spots in grass lawns.

Persimmons
Feed Persimmons now with 16-16-16. Premature fruit drop is caused from nitrogen type fertilizers applied in the spring and early summer months.

Beautiful Fall Trees
Now is the time to take a trip to your favorite garden center to look at trees with fall color. Liquidambar, Raywood Ash, Red Maples, Flowering Pear, Crape Myrtle are just a few the trees showing fall color.
