Clear Fallen Leaves and Debris
Any of the fallen leaves and/or other debris that’s accumulated during the holiday period should be removed from the landscape. They're a lot easier to clean up when they are dry. If left, the matted organic matter becomes a good breeding place for problems later on. Also remove any of the fallen fruit under fruit trees and pick any stragglers off the trees.

Roses
When pruning roses don't be concerned if you find no new buds or breaks along the main canes. Instead just pick a point and prune. In four to six weeks come back and finish the job as the new buds will be visible. Also, clean up any debris under the plants and spray them with a Lilly Miller Pouf Dormant Spray.

Monterey Pines
Monterey Pines are best pruned in January and February instead of April and May. With the cool temperatures, the pruning wounds will heal over before the beetles and other insects become active. This is helpful where Pinch Canker disease is a problem.

Holiday Decorations Into Compost
If you are planning to compost any of your holiday decorations be sure to cut them into small/tiny pieces. If you can put them through a shredder this would be ideal as the smaller the pieces the faster the material will compost.

Perennial Vegetables
This is an excellent time to plant perennial vegetable crops like Asparagus, Rhubarb, Artichokes and others. Navlet has a complete selection of these as well as the Blackberries, Raspberries and other small fruits.

Oxalis
Oxalis, the yellow flowering clover, is quite a problem in turf. Now is the time to control the dormant seed with Scotts Halts or you can apply Super Turf Builder plus Halts and do two tasks at once. In April, apply a Weed and Feed turf product containing Trimec to control the actively growing plants.
