TIMELY TIPS FOR OCTOBER:

Water Your Plants
Now is a good time to plant fall and winter blooming Sasanqua Camellias. These plants are excellent for espaliers, informal hedges, and containers. Two popular varieties include "Yuletide", a brilliant red variety that blooms during the holidays, and "White Dove", a large all white variety. Sasanqua Camellias thrive in full sun with ample water.
Cotoneaster
For fall and winter color, California Toyon, Compact Strawberry Bush, and Cotoneaster are a few shrubs that produce beautiful fall berries. The nursery professional at your local Navlet’s can introduce you to these species.
Epsom Salt
It is beneficial in the fall and again in the spring to add 1/4 cup Epsom Salt around the base of each rose bush. Epsom Salt is an excellent source of the trace element magnesium. Magnesium will keep the rose leaves a dark green color and help in the development of basal shoots.
Fallen Fruit and Leaves
Keep fallen fruit and leaves cleaned up under fruit trees as this material can become an excellent breeding ground for diseases and other problems next year.
