Shredded Bark
May is the month to mulch around trees and shrubs to conserve moisture. Shallow rooted plants like Camellias, Rhododendron or Clematis also enjoy having their roots insulated from the hot sun. A two inch layer of shredded bark protects plant roots during warm summer days. Shredded bark also retards the growth of unwanted weeds. One bag of shredded bark, spread two inches thick, will cover 18 sq. ft.

Beneficial Nematodes
Beneficial Nematodes are naturally occurring organisms that can be applied to the soil around tomato plants in order to control the pupa stage of the Tomato Hornworm. The pupa stage is the stage that occurs just before the hornworm emerges as an adult moth. The adult moth lays eggs on tomato plants, and these eggs will later hatch into large green worms with a horn like structure on their tail.
