Now is the time to remove old rose flowers. To do this you should select an outside leaf bud and cut just below the leaf bud on a 30-45 degree angle. If you leave excess stem tissue the stem will die and turn black, therefore it is vital to cut just below a leaf bud not below a flower bud.
