Homegrown Dessert... with Delicious Homegrown Fruit

Growing your own fruit trees is a rewarding experience. Imagine making fresh apple pie for Easter Sunday using your own homegrown apples. Complete your Thanksgiving feast with a berry pie made from fruits from your own garden. These wonderful ideas can become a reality when you plant fruit trees. At Navlet's we carry a great selection of bare root trees, chosen specifically to grow in the Bay Area climate. It couldn't be easier. Come in to any one of our four locations and let the friendly experts at Navlet's answer all of your fruit tree questions.

Poires au Vin Beaujolais
(translated: Pears in Red Wine)
1/2 bottle (375 mL) fruity red wine such as Beaujolais
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
6 firm pears

In a large, non-reactive saucepan, bring the wine and sugar to a boil. Add the water and simmer for 5 minutes.

While the liquid is simmering, peel core, and quarter the pears. Place the pears in a serving bowl and pour the hot wine mixture over. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 24 hours before serving.
